Troubleshooting your Connection

Kael

Sadly, sometimes things do go wrong. If you find you're unable to get on to KiwiLAN or you can't see your mates games, this page will help you.

I can't see the Sign Up, Games or Who's Online pages?

I haven't got my password emailed to me?

I'm connected, but I can't see any games?

I can get online, but I my mate brought his laptop over, he can't?

Why am I lagging? Is this KiwiLAN's fault?

That's because you're not from New Zealand. Even if you get somebody from NZ to sign you up, you still can't connect to the service because of the restrictions we've put in place. We do this in order to give Kiwis the best possible service!

If you are genuinely from New Zealand, and can't see the sign-up page, then contact us, along with your IP Address, and we'll see what we can do for you.

Check your Spam folder, or wait a few minutes. It sends instantly from our side, but your mail server may be a little slow. Otherwise, click Sign-Up and use the Password Re-send function

Usually this is because there's a firewall in the way. Always disable your firewall. Your Router acts as a Firewall, and we also firewall on the System-link service to prevent abuse, so you're safe to turn it off.
Also, make sure you have the same game versions (See to the right), and that you're on the right server for that game (See Games).
Restarting your PC can sometimes be all you need too.
Otherwise you can try and delete, then re-create your KiwiLAN Connection, and that should fix things!

This is a known issue with some older / cheaper routers. Some models, like certain Linksys routers, have an option that lets you fix this. Look for "VPN ALG" settings. Unfortunately the only solution in some cases is to get a better router. Ask your ISP if they can upgrade you

Chances are, it's not us. Most of the time people saturate their own connection (More than 1 person in the house using it), or they're on a limited-upload plan. Here's some things you can try:

  1. Make sure you're not on a "limited speed upload" plan, get a "Full Speed" plan
  2. Make sure you're on an ADSL2+ or Cable broadband plan
  3. Upgrade your router to a newer, more reliable, potentially faster one
  4. Kick off the other family members who are using the internet
  5. Don't game over WiFi
  6. Turn down the detail level on your PC, and restart it
