Connecting to KiwiLAN

Getting connected to KiwiLAN is dead simple, and you can be up and running in less than two minutes!

The first thing you need to do is sign up, and have your Username and password ready. When you sign up, you enter in a Username you want, and your email address, and your password should arrive instantly.

You will have one connection for each game you wish to play, such as one for DotA, one for COD, one for UT. Thankfully, you only need to create a connection for each game you play once, and it's dead easy to do too.

So, click on your Operating System from the list for specific instructions:

Windows XP

Windows Vista

Windows 7

Windows XP Instructions:

  1. Firstly open the Control Panel
  2. Go into Network Connections
  3. Up the top-left, click on "Create new network connection"
  4. This will start the connection wizard. Click on Next
  5. Select "Connect to the network at my workplace" and click Next
  6. Select "Virtual Private Network connection" and click Next
  7. Enter the Game name, for example "KiwiLAN - DotA" and click Next
  8. IF you are asked, select "Do not dial the initial connection" and click Next. Otherwise skip this step
  9. Enter the Server name for the game you want to play (See Games page for details), for example "darkness.kiwilan.co.nz" and click Next.
  10. Make the connection available "for my use only" and click Next
  11. It's worth ticking "Add a shortcut to my desktop", then click on Finish and you're done!
  12. Now, type in your Username, Password, and tell it to save your password, then connect away.
  13. NOTE: When you connect, you 'lose connectivity with the internet'. See the FAQ list for more info. As soon as you disconnect from KiwiLAN, connectivity will be restored.

Windows Vista Instructions:

What?! You're still using Vista?? Promise you it's worth the upgrade to Windows 7, see pbtech.co.nz for upgrade pricing.
Anyway, use the Windows 7 Instructions, it's basically identical between the two Operating Systems.

Windows 7 Instructions:

  1. Click Start, and type in "VPN". At the top of the menu you will see "Set up a virtual private network (VPN) connection", click it.
  2. For the Internet Address, enter the Server name for the game you want to play (See Games page for details), for example "darkness.kiwilan.co.nz"
  3. For the Destination Name, enter the Game name, for example "KiwiLAN - DotA" and click Next
  4. Enter your Username, Password, then tick "Remember this password"
  5. All done, click on "Connect" and you're good to go!
  6. NOTE: When you connect, you 'lose connectivity with the internet'. See the FAQ list for more info. As soon as you disconnect from KiwiLAN, connectivity will be restored.
